Benedictine Sister Laura Suhr took vows during the rite of first monastic profession at St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph on July 11, promising stability, fidelity to the monastic way of life and obedience for three years.
Sister Laura is the daughter of Ann and Mark Suhr and has one younger sister, Valerie. She and her family are from Hutchinson, Minnesota, where they are members of St. Anastasia Church. Laura graduated from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph in 2010 with a degree in elementary education. Prior to entering the monastery, she taught at St. Peter School in Canby, Minnesota, and Christ the King School in Browerville.
In addition to her studies during her novitiate, Sister Laura served as a sacristan at St. Benedict’s Monastery and provided weekly presentations and prayer opportunities for the sisters at St. Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud. She is a member of the monastery schola and bell choir and tends the monastery gardens during her free time.
