Bishop to preside at May 19 Blue Mass for first responders

Bishop Donald Kettler will preside at a “Blue Mass” to honor all first responders and emergency services personnel in the Diocese of St. Cloud at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 19 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. A light reception will follow.

All are welcome to attend. Invitations have been sent to first responders around the area.

Among those participating will be two Benedictine monks of St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville who are members of the abbey’s fire department — Father Nick Kleespie as cantor and Brother Erick Pohlman as an acolyte.

Members of the Melrose Fire Department will be the gift bearers. Dave and Margie Schutz, members of St. Louis Parish in Paynesville, also will assist at the Mas — Dave as a lector and Margie as an extraordinary minister of holy Communion. They are retired emergency medical technicians (EMTs) with a combined service of 50 years with Paynesville Ambulance Services.
