Local events planned to mark 47th anniversary of legalized abortion

The 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the 1973 United States Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion on demand nationwide, will be observed at the Minnesota State Capitol Wednesday, Jan. 22, with a prayer service, speakers and the annual March for Life.

The Prayer Service for Life is at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 239 Selby Ave., St. Paul, followed by the 30-minute march, which begins at noon on the state Capitol grounds. At 12:30 p.m. marchers will gather for a brief pro-life program on the Capitol steps hosted by Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.   • A Rosary for Life begins at 3:30 p.m. followed by Vespers for Life at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at St. Anthony Church, 2405 1st St. N, St. Cloud. Bishop Donald Kettler will preside at the vespers service. Monetary donations will be accepted for Mother Mary’s Fund to assist crisis pregnancy centers in the Diocese of St. Cloud.
  • Forty hours of eucharistic adoration begins at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, at St. Anthony’s and concludes at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, just before the 7:15 a.m. Mass, after which marchers will board the bus for the events at the Capitol.   • Janet Dusek, diocesan Office of Marriage and Family associate, Linda Pederson and Al Goblirsch are coordinating buses to the events in St. Paul on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The bus rides are free, but a free will offering will be accepted to help with costs.

The diocesan bus departs St. Anthony in St. Cloud at 7:45 a.m. It makes stops at St. John in Foley and St. Luke in Clearwater, arriving at the cathedral in St. Paul at 10:15 a.m. and at the Minnesota State Capitol building at 11:35 a.m. for those who choose not to walk to the Capitol after the prayer service. It will leave the Capitol at 1:30 p.m., stopping in Clearwater and Foley and returning to St. Cloud by 4 p.m. To reserve a seat or for more information, contact Jan at 320-258-7615 or register online at http://omf.stcdio.org/th_event/march-for-life-2020.

Another bus leaves from Sts. Peter and Paul in Richmond at 8:30 a.m., stopping at Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Rockville at 8:45 a.m., before heading to St. Paul. To make a reservation for this bus, contact Linda Pederson at 320-267-6268 or thepedersonfam@aol.com.

The third bus leaves from St. Lawrence in Dulem at 8:15 a.m., making stops at Mary of the Visitation in Big Lake, St. Andrew in Elk River, St. Katharine Drexel in Ramsey, and arriving at the cathedral in St. Paul at 10:15 a.m. It will drop off passengers at each of the locations on the way home and arrive back in Duelm by 3:20 p.m. To ride on this bus, contact Al Goblirsch at 763-441- 1006 or al.goblirsch@hotmail.com.
