“Share the Spirit,” a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud that aims to provide a holiday experience for households in need, is looking for volunteers to help distribute gifts.

“Even happy reunions can bring ordinary obstacles as we struggle with the shifting dynamics within families and the stress brought by homecomings.”

Share the Spirit, a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud, matches individuals and families with individuals, groups and organizations that wish to provide gifts for the holiday season.

Dropping references to Christmas in favor of “winter holidays” in official European Union communications was an idea that was not meant to offend but did and could even push some Christians toward right-wing populist political parties, said Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich of Luxembourg.

“You have to expend energy: Family life requires give and take. At every age, we offer what we can to fill each other’s needs.”

“It’s not an ideal situation, but in these uncertain, unprecedented times, we are wise to be realistic and keep hope that soon, we will be able to visit ‘as of old.'”

An annual service is scheduled near the winter solstice and is intended to bring comfort to those grieving the loss of loved ones during the holiday season.

Be grateful in Thanksgiving, full of wonder at Christmas and eager to start afresh in a New Year.
