A clear and hopeful vision is emerging

The All Things New planning process continues to advance across the Diocese of St. Cloud. As of this writing, several Area Catholic Community plans have been submitted to the diocesan planning office. Initial reviews have been completed by the Committee for the Affirmation of Plans, with additional submissions scheduled for review in the coming weeks. Once affirmed, each plan will be presented to the Presbyteral Council, followed by final review and approval by Bishop Neary.

When the All Things New planning process first began, it was intentionally developed at the grassroots level to allow opportunities for people to get involved. Rather than imposing top-down decisions, the Diocese of St. Cloud prioritized listening, inviting parishioners, clergy, lay leaders and staff to share their hopes, concerns and ideas for the future of our Church. Through surveys, focus groups, pastoral visits and facilitated conversations, this movement grew organically, guided by the belief that authentic renewal begins with honest dialogue and shared discernment. From the beginning, the goal was not just structural change, but spiritual alignment with the needs and gifts of the people of God.

What we have heard is hopeful.

Across the submissions received so far, a consistent and encouraging vision is taking shape. It is grounded in unity, prudent stewardship, missionary discipleship and spiritual renewal. These themes reflect a shared commitment among ACCs to build sustainable, vibrant communities of faith that honor our Catholic tradition while responding to current realities.

Many ACCs are proposing models that consolidate resources and ministries to form unified parish communities. This is not simply a structural adjustment. It is a strategic and spiritual alignment. Plans emphasize the importance of fostering belonging, honoring diversity and building collaborative cultures. The goal is to create parishes that are mission-driven, relationally strong and prepared for future growth.

ACC plans consistently highlight the need for prudent management of personnel, facilities and financial resources. This includes evaluating building usage, aligning staffing models with mission priorities and ensuring long-term sustainability. Stewardship is being approached not only as a financial responsibility but as spiritual practice, honoring the legacy of past generations while preparing for those to come.

A renewed emphasis on evangelization and faith formation is evident throughout the planning documents. ACCs are prioritizing sacramental vitality, lifelong catechesis and outreach to disengaged Catholics. The goal is to cultivate parishes that form and send missionary disciples who live their faith with conviction and share
it with joy.

Underlying all planning efforts is a desire for deeper spiritual engagement. ACCs are seeking ways to strengthen liturgical life, promote prayer and discernment, and create space for healing and hope amid change. This renewal is seen as essential to the success of structural transitions and the long-term vitality of parish life.

As we move forward in the All Things New process, we do so with hearts full of hope and trust in God’s providence. The themes of unity, stewardship and missionary discipleship are not just goals — they are expressions of our identity as a whole Church. In this Advent season, we are reminded that God is always doing something new, even as we honor the sacred traditions that have brought us to this moment. “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19). Let us continue to walk together in faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, as we build a future that reflects the love, mercy, and mission of Jesus Christ.
