Benedictine sisters to make professions

Benedictine Sister Tamra Thomas will make her perpetual monastic profession at the 10:30 a.m. Mass Tuesday, July 11, at Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph. July 11 is the feast day of the order’s founder, St. Benedict. All are invited to attend.

Sister Tamra’s family moved to St. Joseph in 1995, and she sang in the St. Joseph Parish choir. She earned a degree in special education from St. Cloud State University and taught for three years, and then she worked in group homes for adults with disabilities for 12 years.

After entering the monastery in fall 2011, Sister Tamra made her first monastic profession in 2013 and served as receptionist at the Spirituality Center.

Bridgette Powers

Since then, she has specialized in providing, utilizing and maintaining technological equipment, and also educating sisters in its use. She now serves as the monastery’s technology coordinator.

Also, later on July 11, Bridgette Powers will make her first monastic profession, which is not open to the public.

She is a 2009 graduate of the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph and earned a master’s degree in 2015 from St. John’s School of Theology in Collegeville.
