
March 6, 1963
Patrick Michael Neary is born in La Porte, Indiana, to Jacob and Marybelle (Schnider) Neary, the first child and only boy of six children. His family are long-time members of St. Joseph Parish in La Porte. Patrick and his sisters attended St. Joseph’s Grade School.
1981
Graduated from La Porte High School and entered undergraduate seminary with the Congregation of Holy Cross at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. (Spent spring semester of sophomore year at Anahuac University in Mexico City, Mexico, learning Spanish.)
1985
Graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in history and then completed novitiate year in Cascade, Colorado.
1986-1990
Master of Divinity studies at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California, including a year at the Congregation of Holy Cross Seminary in Santiago, Chile. Assigned to St. John Vianney Parish in Goodyear, Arizona, in May 1990.

Ordained as bishop of Diocese of St. Cloud at St. Mary’s Cathedral by principal ordaining bishop Archbishop Bernard Hebda of St. Paul and Minneapolis and co-ordaining bishops Bishop William Wack, C.S.C., of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Florida, and Auxiliary Bishop Peter Smith of Portland, Oregon.
