More than 400 people gathered for Breakfast with the Bishop May 3 at the Gorecki Center at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph. The fourth annual event was a benefit for the Catholic Foundation’s Catholic Schools Student Scholarship Fund.
This year the fund has given $30,000 to 25 schools in the diocese for 100 scholarships. Since 2013, 405 scholarships have been awarded, totaling $121,500.
The keynote address was given by School Sister of Notre Dame Clare Fitzgerald, a native of Boston, who has received the National Catholic Educational Association’s highest commendation for distinguished service to Catholic education and the church three times. She talked about how the mission of Catholic schools is to transform the world and be channels of peace in a time of division.
