Celebrating the Easter triduum in Mexico

Along with Mayuli Bales, diocesan director of multicultural ministries, the girls participated in a nine-day mission trip during Holy Week to San Ildefonso, a village in Mexico’s Sierra Mountains. Not many of San Ildefonso’s population of 300 people are practicing Catholics.

The team refreshed the village’s modest church with flowers, balloons and candles. Each day they visited homes, inviting them to evening sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for the Easter triduum.

After washing the feet of about 35 people on Holy Thursday, the team organized a ‘Via Cruces,’ the ‘Way of the Cross,’ for Good Friday with children from the village taking different roles. They returned on Easter Sunday to the Franciscan convent in San Rafael which organized the week.
