Couples celebrate the gift of marriage

300 couples celebrating 5, 25, 40, 50 and 60+ years of marriage and their guests attended Honoring Marriage Day at St Mary’s Cathedral May 7. A total of 1,544 couples were invited; their names were submitted by their parishes. Three couples attending have been married 70 years. “Pope Francis tells us that marriage is not only a gift, but a vocation, a calling from God,” Bishop Donald Kettler told the couples gathered during his homily. “You become an important sign of the love that exists between Christ and the Church, between Christ and all of the people.”

  • Bud and Mary Ann Molin from St. Paul Parish in St. Cloud have been married 70 years. Bud said the reason they've been together so long is that he feeds her Lutefisk. Mary Ann says that the secret is to hang in there when things don't go the way you want them to. "You have to work as a team," she said. "Some days are not so great, other days are wonderful."
