Movie screening: ‘A Man for All Seasons’

June 27, 2016 @ 5:15 pm

“The Fortnight for Freedom: Witness to Freedom” will take place from June 21 to July 4, a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power — St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year’s Fortnight will focus on the “witness to freedom.”

Please join us for Holy Hour with Bishop Donald Kettler on Monday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Mary 25 South 8th Avenue, St. Cloud, to pray for religious freedom.  The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the relics of St. John Fischer (a ring) and St. Thomas More (a bone) to our diocese for this event. There will be an opportunity to venerate the relics at this Holy Hour.

To prepare for viewing the relics, we will be showing the 1966 Academy Award-winning movie, “A Man for All Seasons,” the story of Thomas More, who stood up to King Henry VIII when the King rejected the Roman Catholic Church to obtain a divorce and remarriage.  The two-hour movie will begin at 5:15 pm in the basement of the Cathedral.  Light refreshments will be available.
