Former Cathedral principal selected as Catholic Community Schools interim superintendent

Lynn Grewing

Lynn Grewing, former Cathedral High School principal, has been selected as the interim superintendent of Catholic Community Schools. She officially begins her position Oct. 14.

Grewing succeeds Kevin Powers, who announced his decision to resign as superintendent Sept. 13.

“I am excited about returning to work in Catholic education, which has been the focus of my entire career,” Grewing said, in an Oct. 4 news release about the announcement. “I am committed to working with the school principals to continue the excellent programs in our Catholic schools.”

Father Ron Weyrens, chair of the CCS board of directors which selected Grewing for the interim position, said, “Grewing’s familiarity with CCS and the St. Cloud area and her collegial style will help us to continue to move forward as we strengthen our schools and the Catholic presence here in our communities.”

Grewing earned a master’s degree in English from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and completed the Minnesota principal program at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona. She served as Cathedral’s principal from 1999 to 2018; principal at Roncalli High School in Aberdeen from 1997 to 1999, and taught at Sts. Peter, Paul and Michael School from 1984-1997.

During her tenure at Cathedral, Grewing “proved herself as an excellent leader and school administrator,” the news release said. “She helped develop strong academic and extracurricular programs, grounded in the principles of the Catholic faith. Students of various backgrounds were prepared well at CHS to succeed in their next endeavors.”
