Franciscan sisters to celebrate 125th year with key events

Since 1891, the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls have stayed true to Gospel living, serving those on the margins and respecting all of creation. In this 125th year since their founding, they are committed to remaining true to their roots.

This quasquicentennial year opens the door to look back with gratitude, celebrate their mission and ministries in the world and look toward the future with anticipation.

save-the-dateIn keeping with their traditions, Mass bookends two key dates: Founding Day on March 1 and the Feast of St. Francis Oct. 4. Bishop Donald Kettler will officiate at the first celebration.

“We want to keep things simple, in like fashion with how we live and minister,” said Sister Bea Eichten, community minister. “So, we are incorporating this milestone anniversary into everything that we typically do: food fundraisers, donor events, St. Francis Music Center concerts, Franciscan Associate commitment service, jubilees, reunions and Green Fair Folk Festival.”

In addition, “We have planned several events to truly celebrate our lives as a Franciscan community and to which we invite the public to join us,” she added.

  • Social ministry teams will gather on Sunday, April 10, from 1-4 p.m. to celebrate their work and to learn from others in the field.
  • The Paramount Theatre in St. Cloud is hosting “Late Nite Catechism Las Vegas!” from April 30-May 2, with donations going to the Franciscan Sisters.
  • St. Francis Convent will host an open house on Saturday, July 9, from 1-4 p.m. with musicians from St. Francis Music Center, a self-guided indoor tour and tractor- and horse-drawn wagon outdoor tour, displays and videos which tell the stories of 125 years.
  • A liturgical performance by musicians David Haas, Marty Haugen and Father J. Michael Joncas on Friday, Sept. 30, from 7-8:30 p.m. ($25/person).

“As we so often sing, ‘All Are Welcome in This Place,’ we invite others to join us during this joyous year,” Sister Bea said.
