John Haws, former head soccer coach for St. John’s University, has been selected as the new director of development for the Catholic Community Schools, a consolidated preK-12 Catholic school system consisting of seven schools in the St. Cloud area. He began his new position Sept. 3.
In this role, Haws will develop and execute fundraising initiatives and programs focused on the mission and strategic goals of CCS. This includes building annual fundraising goals, focusing on major gifts, planned giving, annual and capital campaigns, corporate sponsorships and grant opportunities for CCS. This role will also support the Catholic Education Foundation and the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of St. Cloud.
“My ideals and identity were shaped by my 14 years of Catholic education. I taught at a number of CCS schools, and continued that calling for 20 years as a coach at St. John’s University,” Haws said. “I’m excited to join an organization whose mission aligns with my values and offers me a chance to significantly impact our community’s future.”
Haws comes to the role with a strong background spanning nearly 25 years working in education and with youth. Most recently, he served as the head men’s soccer coach and assistant athletic director for St. John’s University. He recruited, coached and mentored all team members, was responsible for the budget and served as a liaison to SJU’s institutional advancement department for the annual Go Johnnies Challenge Give Day.
He attended Holy Family Elementary School in Albany, St. John’s Preparatory School in Collegeville and graduated from St. John’s University with a bachelor of arts degree in educational studies and a math concentration. He has a master’s degree in sports management from St. Cloud State University.
“John brings a solid background, the energy and ability to connect with people of all ages and a commitment to our mission,” said David Fremo, president of Catholic Community Schools. “We are blessed to have John join our leadership team in this critical role.”
