Knights giving away all sizes of winter coats

Coats, caps gloves and mittens are available for those in need throughout the St. Cloud area from Knights of Columbus Council 5548 through its Coats for Kids program. The initiative provides free winter clothing items for adults as well as children, including infants and toddlers.

“We have a good supply of coats in stock,” said Knight Tom Jacobs. “We plan to be fairly busy in November and December but know we’ll also be seeing a number of clients in January.”

Now in its eighth year, the program starting giving away coats Oct. 20 from where they are housed at St. Joseph’s School in Waite Park. It will continue Monday through Friday during the winter months as long as people need them. To make an appointment to obtain a coat, call Ione Jacobs at 320-492-7993.

“With the early winter weather, we’ve already given out about 340 coats in our first week,” Ione said.

Coats and other winter clothing items, which are clean and in good condition, may be donated directly to the Coats for Kids program by contacting Ione or Tom. Or, they may be left in boxes at parishes in St. Cloud including St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Anthony, Holy Spirit, St. Michael and St. John Cantius; St. Francis Xavier in Sartell, Sacred Heart in Sauk Rapids or Annunciation in Mayhew Lake.

Monetary donations may be sent to: Knights of Columbus Council 5548, c/o Conrad Meier, 1430 Northway Place, St. Cloud, MN 56303. (Include a notation that the funds are designated for Coats for Kids.) These funds will be used to purchase coats in sizes that the program runs short of.
