On July 11, Benedictine Brother Travis Spillum made solemn vows at Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville as a Benedictine monk in the presence of Benedictine Abbot Douglas Mullin, the monks of Saint John’s Abbey and his family and friends. Travis was born and raised in Little Falls, Minnesota, where he was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. After graduating from Little Falls Community High School Brother Travis attended Saint John’s University in Collegeville, obtaining his undergraduate degree in mathematics and economics. Following graduation, Travis was accepted into the Benedictine Volunteer Corps where he lived and worked for a year of service with the sisters of St. Gertrude’s Convent in Tanzania, Africa.
“I am grateful for the community of Saint John’s Abbey and the friendships I have made,” Brother Travis said. “I continue to be filled by the prayer life and camaraderie that drew me here, and I look forward to growing in monastic life as I continue studying at Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary and serving on several committees for Saint John’s Abbey.”
