‘My Neighbor is Muslim’ workshop series to be offered at monastery

A four-week workshop titled “My Neighbor is Muslim” will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, March 13, 20, 27 and April 3 at St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph. Led by Benedictine Sisters Mara Faulkner and Margaret Michaud, the workshop is a small-group study exploring the Islamic faith using short readings and discussion as a way to gain knowledge of Islam’s ethical beliefs and practices.

There is a fee of $10 for materials, and a free will offering will also be accepted. This is a repeat of a program offered last fall. For more information, call 320-363-8987.

“When 50 people showed up at the fall workshop, we planned right then to rerun it this spring,” Sister Mara said. “The workshop was not meant to convert anyone but to counter misinformation and the fear and rumors that are arising. People shared their honest questions and were willing to listen to accurate information so they could fill in the blanks in their knowledge. It was a wonderful experience.”
