Father LeRoy Andrew Maus, 92, died Jan. 27 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Seven Dolors Church, Albany, with Bishop Patrick Neary officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Bowlus American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Seven Dolors Gathering Area in Albany. A vigil prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
He was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Watkins, to Martin and Hildegard (Bates) Maus. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He attended the Crosier Seminary in Onamia and Saint John’s Seminary in Collegeville. Father Maus was ordained on June 4, 1966, by Bishop Peter Bartholome at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud.
Father Maus was associate pastor at St. Joseph in Pierz, San Bartolome in Maracay, Venezuela, and St. Paul in St. Cloud before serving as pastor at St. Edward in Strandquist, Minnesota; St. Joseph in Benwood, Minnesota; St. Joseph in Middle River, Minnesota; St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Isanti; Holy Cross in North Prairie; St. Stanislaus Kostka in Bowlus; St. Michael in Buckman; St. Joseph in Bertha and St. Edward in Henning. He also was a prison chaplain in Texas, Florida and Oregon. He retired from active ministry in July 1999.
He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post 642 in Bowlus and member of the Knights of Columbus Father Pierz Council #3628 in Albany for 70 years.
Survivors include his brother, Lloyd (Marlene) Maus; nieces and nephews, Annette (William) Elliott, Michael (Susan) Bredeck, Mary (Kenn) Day, Joan Bredeck, Joan Hemker, Sheila (Ron) Hoeschen, Lucy Maus, Jodi (Dean) Lingenfelter, and Scott (Jerrie Lynn) Maus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Hildegard Maus; sister, LuElla (Leo) Bredeck; brother, Leander Maus; and nephews, William Bredeck, Mark Hemker, and Jon Maus.
