Online BeFriender workshops train people in listening ministry

Virtual Befriender Ministry workshops are scheduled for those who wish to gain skills in a listening ministry of pastoral care. Titled “Creating Caring Communities — Foundations for Befriender Ministry,” the four-day online workshops provide training in active, nonjudgmental listening.

BeFriender Ministry is a national ecumenical program providing transformative training and ongoing support to the trainers, facilitators and administrators. “Foundations for BeFriender Ministry” is a workshop for teams who want to implement and maintain a listening ministry of pastoral care and support in their church, hospital, senior living community (including all levels of care) or other organization.

It is recommended that a team of two to five people from a church or organization attend. Ideally, the team would include at least one staff person (such as clergy, chaplain, deacon, faith community nurse, director of pastoral care, pastoral minister, etc.) and one or more volunteers. This team would then serve as program leaders for the BeFriender Ministry in a church or organization.

Held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, upcoming sessions include Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25; Dec. 6-9; and Jan. 19, 26, Feb. 2, 9. The cost is $849 (early bird registration $799). To register for these sessions, go to https://bit.ly/3cy32L8. For more information, visit www.befrienderministry.org or call the national office at 952-767-0244 or 1-866-468-8708.
