Family, friends and priests and deacons of the diocese gathered Oct. 5 to celebrate the life of Bishop John Francis Kinney, who passed away Sept. 27. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with burial at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.

- Bishop Kinney's friend, Father Kevin McDonough, pastor of Incarnation Parish in Minneapolis, ended his homily with these words, "You and I live in the same real world for the healing of which John Kinney dedicated his whole life. Poor neighborhoods are flooded; refugees around the world are shunted into camps and forgotten; children are still in danger from sick people, and all while the powerful resist change. You can close your eyes and ignore the ominous sounds ... Or you can trust that Jesus is in the storm with you. Wade in. He will bring you through to the other side."
