Family and friends gathered Oct. 4 at St. Mary’s Cathedral for a vigil liturgy for Bishop Emeritus John Francis Kinney, who passed away Sept. 27. The Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at the cathedral.
Vicar General Father Robert Rolfes gives the homily during the vigil service. He recalled Bishop Kinney taking a crucifix in his hand and gazing upon it a few days before he died. “I’m sure he was saying quietly: ‘Lord, you know that I love you.’ … He was faithful to the very end.”
