‘Prayer for Peace’ concert set for Sept. 24

Rudolfo López and Jaime Cortez will lead “Prayer for Peace,” a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in the Glen Carlson Room of the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud.

López and Cortes are liturgical musicians and composers from Oregon Catholic Press, who is sponsoring the concert.

The two musicians will guide the audience in sung and spoken prayer, which arise from a desire for peace in the world, said Timothy Johnston, director of the diocesan Office of Worship.

There will be a free will offering. The entire community is invited to participate in this ecumenical event.

The concert caps the Diocesan V Encuentro event Sept. 24 at the convention center.

On Sept. 25, López and Cortes will present a workshop titled “Building and Caring for Vibrant Parish Music Programs” at Diocesan Ministry Day, also being held at the convention center. The workshop will explore ways to build a strong music program, including enlivening groups already in place and recruiting and forming new members, especially in rural parishes.

The musicians will return to the diocese in the spring of 2018 to offer a formation event for local parish musicians, Johnston said.
