Pregnancy Resource Center will host its annual Let Life Shine … Walk for Life!, May 2 at the Sartell Community Center, a family-friendly fundraising event to support the center’s work to provide life-affirming care at their two Central Minnesota locations.
“It is so important for our mission because it’s one of our largest fundraisers for the year and our goal for walking is so our community sees there is a group of people who believes in life,” Elizabeth Siekawitch executive director of the center said.
Pregnancy Resource Center offers free pregnancy testing, STD testing for men and women, parenting classes, infant exams, baby items and ultrasounds.
“We like to show [women] the ultrasound because it shows them whether there is a viable pregnancy or not and hold hopes they choose life.” Siekawitch said.
To kick off the walk, participants will gather for a lantern lighting ceremony to serve as a reminder that light overcomes the darkness and symbolize the light of Christ shining through each participant. The event continues with a nearly two mile walk, family friendly activities, including face painting, and lunch.
This year’s event also features the Linda Hendrickson Legacy Fundraising Challenge to honor Hendrickson and her commitment to raising funds for the organization.
When Linda was a child, her mom heard an announcement on the radio calling for people to support the PRC’s mission to help save unborn babies. Her mom challenged Linda to call people for donations.
The task initially intimidated Linda, but each year it got easier. Last year she raised $30,000.
“Linda is a very special person. Her contribution has been invaluable throughout the years and her tenacity for life and saving babies is so beautiful,” Siekawitch said, “I cannot think of anything more significant for someone to accomplish than helping to save lives. Linda has done that for 35 years.”
Hendrickson invites everyone to join her in supporting the PRC’s mission to save lives.
“Whether you raise $35, or maybe even $35,000, you can make a difference,” Hendrickson shares in a promotional video. “If I could do it, you can do it, too.”
