The recent death of Pope Francis touched the lives of Catholic school communities in the Diocese of St. Cloud. In response, they hosted prayer services this week and planned educational opportunities to honor his legacy and follow the future of the papacy.
John Haws was hired as director of development for Catholic Community Schools for the Diocese of St. Cloud.
About 125 Catholic Community Schools educators participated in the Dec. 2 event, which included 14 different projects at sites around the St. Cloud area.
St. Joseph Catholic School principal Sara Michaelson has joined the staff of Catholic Community Schools as the director of learning and teaching. Peggy Frederickson will take her position at St. Joseph Catholic School in the fall.
The school “has been facing considerable challenges for some time due to changing demographics, diminishing enrollments and other barriers to long-term operational vitality,” according to a May 1 news release from the diocese.
Catholic Community Schools announced April 27 that Erin Hatlestad has been hired as principal of Cathedral Middle School in St. Cloud beginning this July.
Cathedral High School started distance learning the week of Nov. 16, but distance learning for K-6 schools in the CCS school system begins Nov. 30. Catholic Community Schools will remain in distance learning through the holidays.
While distance-learning could prove to be necessary in the future, CCS leaders recognize that there is no substitute for in-person instruction, and so far, the precautions taken seem to be working, said CCS President Scott Warzecha.
