Catholic Extension raises funds to help build up faith communities and construct churches in U.S. mission dioceses.

Pope Francis was among several church leaders who commended Sister Keehan, a nurse and Daughter of Charity, during an awards banquet May 25 at the Library of Congress sponsored by the Chicago-based papal mission society that supports ministries in poor dioceses.

Bishop Danylo, who heads the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma, Ohio, planned to distribute fund donated by Catholic Extension and other benefactors to various organizations helping Ukrainian refugees.

This year’s 34 nominees for the award “show the enormous breadth of the Catholic Church across the country.”
