The staging of spectacles outside of places of worship escalates the repression against Catholics in Nicaragua. This month, a boxing ring was set up in the courtyard of the León cathedral.

The arrests continue a pattern of repression from the country’s increasingly tyrannical leader, President Daniel Ortega, whose regime has portrayed the Catholic Church as an enemy.
