After Pope Francis’ announcement that he was sending two cardinals to Ukraine, the Vatican said March 7 that Polish Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, papal almoner, and Canadian Cardinal Michael Czerny, interim president of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, intend to reach Ukraine “in the coming days,” depending on the situation.
In this time of crisis, he said the U.S. bishops “echo the appeal by Pope Francis to those ‘with political responsibility to examine their consciences seriously before God, who is the God of peace and not of war … who wants us to be brothers and not enemies.'”
On Sept. 15 and 16, a second collection will be taken in parishes of the St. Cloud Diocese to benefit CCHD with twenty-five percent of the funds collected remaining in the diocese to support local anti-poverty projects.
