The Diocese of St. Cloud will have its diocesan Encuentro on Sept. 24 at the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud. Nearly 400 people from around the diocese were registered to attend as of Sept. 19.

The parishes of Little Falls and Belle Prairie learned to stay connected and make the effort to be welcoming and open with the Hispanic families in the area.

The USCCB’s assistant director of the Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church, Alejandro Aguilera-Titus, will speak on the theme “Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers” at Leadership Day April 27 in St. Joseph. The day is designed for both lay and ordained ministry leaders from around the Diocese of St. Cloud.

St. Joseph in Waite Park and St. Michael in St. Cloud held their first Encuentro session, and began the four-year process, parishes are hosting meetings that offer a scriptural basis for engaging with their neighbors.

Encuentro organizers hope the process will yield an increase in vocations of Latinos to the priesthood, religious life, permanent diaconate, an increase in the percentage of Latino students enrolling at Catholic schools, and create a group of Latino leaders for the church, as well as an increase Latinos’ sense of belonging and stewardship in the U.S. church.

On Sunday, Sept. 24, Diocesan Encuentro (which means “encounter” in Spanish) will take place at River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud. On the following day, Sept. 25, Diocesan Ministry Day will be held at the convention center.
