St. Joseph the Worker Knight of Columbus council, from the parishes of Sacred Heart in Freeport, St. Rose of Lima in St. Rosa and Immaculate Conception in New Munich, hosted its third annual food drive which resulted in over 200 pounds of food and $200 donated to Melrose Area Food Shelf.
“Rising inflation, increasing costs, and the discontinuation of Covid-era programs continue to create challenges and food insecurities right here in our communities,” said Steve Pareja, executive director of Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities Food Shelf will accept donations of nonperishable food items at three drop-off locations: Pioneer Place on Fifth, St. Cloud Hyundai and St. Cloud Financial Credit Union.
Hosted annually by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud, the event supports Catholic Charities’ Emergency Services and Domus Transitional Housing.
In partnership with Hunger Solutions Minnesota, Open Your Heart’s Summer Challenge makes it possible for Minnesota food shelves to restock and distribute fresh and frozen foods during this difficult time of year.

March is typically a challenging month for Minnesota food shelves.
“Volunteers are critical to fulfill the mission of Catholic Charities. We can’t serve the Central Minnesota community without them,” said Annie Henriksen, volunteer coordinator.
