Ukraine’s struggle against Russian aggression is “about genocide and the survival of an ethnic nation” — something the West does not realize, states an Ukrainian Catholic archbishop. “This is not about politics, but survival.”

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, more than 8,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed and more than 13,200 injured along with an estimated 8 million refugees have been recorded across Europe.

More than 16,200 Ukrainian children have been abducted by Russia, according to Ukraine’s government.

Anti-Indigenous racism in North America also plays a significant role in devaluing Indigenous women and girls and fueling horrific levels of violence against them.

“Let us pray for the victims of this genocide and pray for so many Ukrainians — children, women and the elderly, babies — who suffer the martyrdom of aggression today,” the pope said.
