Donning a hard hat and work gloves July 8, Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda of St. Paul and Minneapolis and students from St. Catherine University in St. Paul helped raise a wall of the first duplex being built in the Twin Cities as part of a national Habitat for Humanity initiative called the Pope Leo Village.
The Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict in St. Joseph handed over the keys of Genesis House to members of Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity in December. The transfer of the property ended with a prayer service to bless the home, the workers who will renovate it and the family who will come to live there.
A Habitat for Humanity event in Indiana pulled together almost 2,000 volunteers, generous contributions, celebrities and faith groups including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, both in their 90s, helping to build 23 single-family houses during the last week of August.
