Holy Communion

What was the first tabernacle? In a sense, Because we are members of Christ’s body by baptism. We are temples of the Holy Spirit. We are tabernacles.

Observed on the second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday was established in 2000 by St. John Paul II during his canonization of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, a 20th-century Polish mystic.

Archbishop Broglio said he planned to continue efforts that began under his predecessor to bring the U.S. bishops closer together after recent assemblies demonstrated in public conflicting views on a variety of issues they have addressed.

He asked Catholic politicians in his diocese in a statement Jan. 24, 2022, “to voluntarily refrain” from receiving Communion while in public office if they are at odds with church teaching on the sanctity of life, including its opposition to abortion.

Sixty-seven bishops and cardinals sent a letter to Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, USCCB president, asking that any discussion on “eucharistic coherence” be removed from the assembly agenda.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has urged the U.S. bishops to proceed with caution in their discussions about formulating a national policy “to address the situation of Catholics in public office who support legislation allowing abortion, euthanasia or other moral evils.”

The coronavirus pandemic has closed churches to public gatherings globally and for most Catholics, Holy Thursday 2020 will be a Eucharist-free.

Biden attended morning Mass Oct. 27 at St. Anthony Church in Florence and was refused Communion by the pastor, Father Robert E. Morey, over Biden’s support for legal abortion.
