Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict

Sister Karen Rose was installed as the 18th prioress of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict in a private Rite of Installation ceremony on June 4.

To celebrate Catholic Sisters Week, March 8-14, the sisters of St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph have partnered with Laundry Love and the Central MN Catholic Worker in St. Joseph to help local low-income individuals and families afford laundry services.

Benedictine Sister Phyllis (Dunstan) Plantenberg, 95, died Oct. 10 at St. Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud. The Eucharist of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15,  at the Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, with burial in the monastery cemetery.

The Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict in St. Joseph handed over the keys of Genesis House to members of Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity in December. The transfer of the property ended with a prayer service to bless the home, the workers who will renovate it and the family who will come to live there.

Benedictine Sister Sheila (Shirley) Rausch, 93, died Aug. 4 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community, St. Cloud. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Monastery on Aug. 11, followed by inurnment of her cremated remains in the monastery cemetery. 

Benedictine Sister Carmen (Mary) Mulcahy, 95, died Jan. 31 at Mother of Mercy Senior Living, Albany. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, with burial in the monastery cemetery.

Benedictine Sister Theresa Schumacher, 80, died May 29 at St. Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 3, at 4 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph.
