Ten men take next steps as diaconate candidates

Seven men were admitted to candidacy for the permanent diaconate and three men continued their journey to ordination, one being instituted as a reader and two as acolytes during a special Mass with Bishop Donald Kettler at St. Mary’s Cathedral Jan. 22. The Diocese of St. Cloud requires a Master’s degree in pastoral ministry, as well as one additional year of supervised internship before deacons are ordained. The typical formation period for deacons is four years.

Those just beginning their formation are: Jorge Armondo Carrillo and Jesus Hernandez Chavez of St. Mary in Melrose, Mario Gonzalo Mancilla of St. Leonard in Pelican Rapids, Carlos Pesqueda Silva of St. Mary of Mount Carmel in Long Prairie, Kelly Marthaler of West Union, Lorenzo Sanchez Rodriguez of Assumption in Morris and Richard Wolter of Sacred Heart in Sauk Rapids. Daniel Metoyer of St. Augustine, St. Cloud was instituted as a reader and Vincent Charles of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Isanti and Leo Wehseler of St. Joseph, Pierz, were instituted as acolytes.
