Three men ordained deacons June 10 in St. Cloud

A crowd of witnesses gathered June 10 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud to watch St. Cloud Bishop Patrick Neary, C.S.C., ordain three men to the diaconate. Seminarians Daniel Ruprecht and Kevin Soenneker were ordained as transitional deacons. The two men are in formation for the priesthood at Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul. Leo Wehseler of St. Joseph Church in Pierz was ordained a permanent deacon. He lives in Pierz with his wife, Maggie, and their five children: Catherine, 13; Maria, 12; Elizabeth, 7; Mark, 4; and Justin, 1.

“Kevin, Daniel, and Leo, God has called you by name just as he did the prophet Jeremiah,” said Bishop Neary in his homily. “This day was planned by God before you were formed in your mother’s womb. See what great love the Lord has for you by calling out your name. You have been set apart by God to bring Good News to his holy people. He has great faith in you. And so do we.”
