Visitor editor and diocesan communications director Joe Towalski has been elected president of the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada.
The CPA has nearly 250 publication members and 500 individual members. Member print publications reach 10 million households plus others through members’ websites and social media outlets.

“Joe is a member of the board of directors serving since 2012 and a fully committed director at that,” said CPA executive director Tim Walter.
“During his second term on the board, Joe was elected vice president of the association and handled the lion’s share of the membership committee work, approving nearly 200 new members in the last three years alone. His five years of experience with the CPA, and his long history of diocesan newspaper and communication work position Joe for leadership at an important time in our 106th year.
“We congratulate Joe and look forward to his leadership for the next two years as CPA president,” he said.
Towalski’s two-year term begins at the annual meeting of the CPA on June 22 in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, and runs through June 2019. He will continue to serve as communications director and editor of The Visitor.
“I’m honored to serve in this new role,” Towalski said. “I look forward to continuing the good work of the board and CPA staff to assist Catholic communicators with professional development, networking opportunities and meeting the challenges of communicating the Good News in today’s church.”
