Vocation event seeks to inspire participants ‘to follow the Good Shepherd’

The diocesan Vocation Office will sponsor an event for families on Sunday, April 30. “The Shepherd is Calling” is a hands-on event held in conjunction with Good Shepherd Sunday at the Mike and Alice Westrich farm (1652 Abbey Road) in Burtrum. It is geared toward parents and their elementary school-age children with activities to help them learn more about Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

Participants will be divided into groups to visit activity stations, including a visit to the barn to hold and pet sheep; eucharistic adoration; a “Dress like a Shepherd” craft, in which each person can decorate a flour sack towel to wear around their head and personalize a wooden stick to be their staff; and seminarians sharing their vocation stories and a skit about Fatima.

The event, which will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., also includes Mass with Father Doug Liebsch at 4 p.m. and a hog roast.
