Exhibit celebrates creative spirit and talent of Crosiers

A three-day art exhibit aims to showcase the creative spirit and artistic talent of Crosier Fathers and Brothers over the years.

Guests can view the exhibit, “Crosier Art: Past and Present,” from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 28, 29 and 30 at Holy Cross Center in Onamia.

Pieces included in the show were collected from the Crosier archives, Crosier monasteries around the world, individual collections and the priory in Onamia, said  curator of the exhibit.

The artists featured are Crosier priests and brothers from the United States, Belgium, Holland, Mexico, Indonesia, Congo, Germany and Brazil, as well as a Crosier associate from Irian Jaya.

Among the most recent pieces are 10 icons written by Brother Jim, including his newest, an icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

“It is through various forms of art that we are able to express our spirituality as Crosier religious men,” he said.

The oldest piece in the exhibit is a painting titled “Veronica’s Veil” from the early 1900s by Crosier Father Frank Smerke.

“Those who attend the exhibit will experience a variety of art often not seen outside our Crosier monasteries or priories,” Brother Jim said.

Some of the artists will be present to answer questions, and a number of Crosiers will be available to share their insights about the art.
