Men from around the diocese gathered at St. Francis Xavier Church in Sartell Feb. 26 for the annual Catholic Men’s Conference. The theme of the gathering, which was sponsored by the Office of Marriage and Family, was “St. Joseph’s Men.” The day featured a keynote address, Mass, workshops and time for fellowship. Part of the day also was set aside for a synod listening consultation.
Msgr. Thomas Richter, pastor of Queen of Peace Church in Dickinson, North Dakota, and former director of vocations for the Diocese of Bismarck, was the keynote speaker. God’s is love, Msgr. Richter said, and he encouraged the men to want God “in all things” and to let God take control of their hearts.
During his homily at Mass, Bishop Donald Kettler encouraged the men to pray.
“Your coming together in prayer, study and reflection is very powerful. Be glad rejoice and give thanks,” Bishop Kettler told the men during his homily. “As we look toward Lent, let the confession of sin and God’s forgiveness come to us. With prayer, fasting and almsgiving — good works for others — let us experience God’s love, healing and presence and then share some of this with others.”
