Highlighting progress made in safeguarding and recommendations for rectifying ongoing gaps, the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors dedicated its first annual report to all victims and survivors of sexual abuse by members of the Catholic Church.
Minnesota law defines human trafficking as the sale of a person for the purpose of sexual acts or forced labor.
“The thousands of women and girls who are trafficked every year denounce the dramatic consequences of relational models based on discrimination and submission,” the pope said, “and it is not an exaggeration — there are thousands of them!”
There were dozens of companies that came under consideration for the annual “Dirty Dozen” list of companies produced by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation that profit from pornography.
During a U.N. Security Council open debate Nov. 21 on human trafficking in conflict situations, Archbishop Bernardito Auza said as wars and conflicts rage, “trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation, forced labor and similar crimes will continue to flourish.”
