Title 42

The public-health order, known as Title 42, allows the United States to bar entry of persons who have recently been in a country where a communicable disease was present.

“It’s very difficult to predict what that migration will (look like) but we are planning for different scenarios,” said U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Biden administration officials have instructed lawyers for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to focus on prosecuting cases involving immigrants who pose a public safety, national or border security threat and set “low priority” cases on a different track.

The Biden administration has confirmed it will lift a public health measure in May that was put in place at the start of the coronavirus pandemic that has kept asylum-seekers out.

Two years after the implementation of a public health rule limiting who enters the U.S. at its borders, Catholic immigration advocates keep calling out the Biden administration for continuing it and they are demanding its demise.

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace highlighted the ongoing world refugee crisis, while Pax Christi USA decried a “marketplace mentality” that overshadows the religious nature of Advent and Christmas.

Along with a large group of supporters and associates, about 80 women religious from 24 congregations around the country marched and circled an area in front of the White House singing and carrying signs that read: “Catholic Sisters say: End the Immoral Use of Title 42.”

The Trump administration enacted what’s become known as Title 42, saying the Centers for Disease Control had voiced health concerns related to COVID-19, and the Biden administration has continued using it, much to the dismay of immigration advocates.
