Alexandria parish hosts free Thanksgiving dinner

St. Mary Parish in Alexandria will host a free community Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, at St. Mary’s School gym, 421 Hawthorne St. Free meals will also be delivered to the homebound. To request free meal deliveries, call 320-766-4198.

“The meal is for anyone in the Alexandria area who might be alone or would otherwise not be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal,” said Anna Solheid. She and her husband Richard, parishioners at St. Mary’s, coordinate 120 volunteers needed for the event.

The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberries, peas, ambrosia salad, rolls, beverages and pie. The group welcomes donations of pumpkin and fruit pies, which can be brought to St. Mary’s School cafeteria from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 23, or before 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24.

Families and individuals interested in volunteering should call Richard at 320-766-8307. A free will offering will be taken; proceeds will benefit local food shelves.
