Fare For All makes Thanksgiving dinner more affordable

Fare For All, a local non-profit food program created to make buying fresh fruits and vegetables more economical for community members, will be selling holiday packs for $30 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 610 Co. Rd. 2, St. Joseph, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14.

Each holiday pack includes an eight- to 10-pound turkey, a Hormel pork tenderloin, two pounds of Tyson chicken wings, pork sausage, two bags of green beans and a pumpkin pie. There is no need to register in advance.

“Last November we saw about 500 families in two hours, and nearly everyone purchased a holiday pack,” site leader Amanda Roles said. “Many families have been forced to cut back on fresh produce and lean meats because of ever-shrinking food budgets. The program is designed to help make affordable, healthy food available to those families — especially during the holiday season.”

Fare For All purchases fresh fruits, vegetables and frozen meats in bulk and passes on the savings to anyone who wants to stretch their food budget. With prices ranging from $10 to $30 per package, participants in the program can save up to 40 percent on their food purchases at 37 locations throughout Minnesota. The program has no income requirements and is open to everyone looking to save money. There are no forms to complete. Cash, credit, debit and EBT cards are accepted.
