Little Falls native to be ordained priest Sept. 5

Deacon Gilbrian Stoy, a member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, is one of five men who will be ordained priests of the order Sept. 5 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

Deacon Stoy is the son of Thomas Stoy and Brigid Fitzgerald, members of St. Mary
Parish in Little Falls. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2013 and earned his master of divinity degree from the university in 2019. He entered Holy Cross in 2013, made his first profession of vows on Aug. 1, 2015 and final vows on Aug. 31, 2019.

During his formation, Deacon Stoy served at St. Mark’s Parish, Niles, Michigan; Sacred Heart Parish, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rise Up Academy, South Bend, Indiana; Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, Indiana; the Common Goods Food Cooperative, South Bend and as assistant rector, Alumni Hall, University of Notre Dame.

Since being ordained a deacon in 2019, he has been serving at Christ the King Parish in South Bend.

“People keep asking me if I am nervous as priestly ordination approaches,” Deacon Stoy said in an Aug. 21 press release from the order. ”I think after so many years of formation, I am simply ready. I am excited to serve the people of God as a priest. I know that I still have so many areas in which I will and need to grow, but I am very excited to begin that life consecrated for service.”

For safety reasons, only Holy Cross religious and close family members are able to attend the ordination in person, however, it can be viewed live online at ordination-live.holycrossvocations.org.
