St. Benedict’s Monastery to celebrate Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with prayer service

St. Benedict’s Monastery is hosting an ecumenical prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Sacred Heart Chapel, to celebrate this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The public is invited to participate in the service with the theme “Do Good; Seek Justice,” which will be led by members of St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph Parish and Resurrection Lutheran Church, all in St. Joseph.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated annually from Jan. 18-25 by Christian churches around the world. This year’s theme, suggested and resourced by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches, will focus on the experience of Indigenous and African American people in our country.

The prayer service will include Scripture, prayers, hymns, ritual actions, and several personal stories conveying the experiences and hopes of current lay people of color residing in Minnesota. All are welcome to attend. A reception in the Gathering Place of the monastery follows the service.
