A bill approved March by both chambers of New Mexico’s Legislature, the Reproductive and Gender-Affirming Health Care Protection Act, would block local governments from restricting abortion or gender reassignment treatments.

The cardinals reflected on the situation and supported the different initiatives that have been launched by Pope Francis and the Vatican’s secretary and secretariat of state, aimed at finding a peaceful solution.
