Como todos sabéis, desde hace siglos la iglesia católica reserva todo el mes de mayo para honrar a María, Madre de Dios. No sólo un día de mayo, sino todo el mes. Algunos dicen que fue creado para reemplazar varios cultos paganos. La verdadera razón es el hecho de que este mes es el momento en que la primavera está en el apogeo de su belleza. En la época medieval abundaban costumbres similares, todas centradas en la práctica de expulsar el invierno, ya que el 1 de mayo se consideraba el comienzo de un nuevo crecimiento.
