Bishop Kettler’s Column

In his final column to the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Bishop Donald Kettler offers some parting words.

“Please join me in giving Bishop-elect Neary a warm welcome! He has already learned much about our Church in central Minnesota, and he will learn much more when he begins to visit our parishes, Area Catholic Communities and religious communities.”

Exercises that benefit our spiritual health include daily routines of Scripture reading and prayer, participating in Sunday Mass, serving others, and practicing gratitude and compassion.

“In this month of Thanksgiving, let us reflect in a special way on all of the blessings we receive in our lives and all that we are grateful for. And let us reflect more deeply on the gift of the Eucharist and its power to transform our lives and the lives of all whom we encounter.”

This year’s World Mission Sunday theme —“You shall be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8) — reinforces the idea that together as disciples we are urged to carry out Christ’s mission and message.

Bishop Kettler released the statement Oct. 11 ahead of the Oct. 17 release from prison of Father Anthony Oelrich.

“Our involvement in faithful citizenship efforts contributes to a positive future for everyone. Please take the next several weeks to study the issues and properly form your conscience in order to make good judgments in the upcoming election and beyond.”

“Let’s challenge ourselves — as a diocese, ACCs and parishes — to think of ways to invite youth and young adults to participate in the planning of, and attendance at, revival-related events over these next few years.”
