All are invited to a Holy Hour with Bishop Donald Kettler at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 25 S. 8th Ave., in St. Cloud to pray for religious freedom. The Holy Hour is a part of the Fortnight for Freedom, which is from June 21 to July 4. The theme of this year’s fortnight is “Witness to Freedom,” honoring great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power.
The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the visit of relics from St. John Fisher (a ring) and St. Thomas More (a bone); there will be an opportunity to venerate the relics at the Holy Hour.
To prepare for viewing the relics, the film “A Man for All Seasons” (1966) will be shown. The two-hour movie will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the basement of the cathedral. Light refreshments will be available. The film tells the story of St. Thomas More who was beheaded in 1535 for defending his beliefs to King Henry VIII regarding marriage and the pope as the supreme head of the church.
St. John Fisher was an English bishop who was martyred after he actively opposed Henry VIII’s divorce from Queen Catherine.
